About Steve

Steve Staeger

Steve Staeger is a consumer investigator at 9NEWS in Denver, a role he created in 2023, after joining 9NEWS as general assignment reporter in 2014. Before consumer reporting, Steve served as a correspondent for Next with Kyle Clark and weekend anchor for the station.

Through the investigative work of "Steve On Your Side," Steve's reporting has helped recover more than $1.5 million for Colorado consumers. His reporting on inflated photo radar fines led a small Weld County town to refund more than a thousand drivers. His reporting on insurance denials for life-saving air ambulance rides led the insurance companies to reverse course. Steve’s relentlessness looking into slow payments to Marshall Fire survivors led their mortgage companies to hand over hundreds of thousands of dollars overnight.

Steve's other investigative work helped expose the truth in the shooting death of Christian Glass in Clear Creek County which led to the largest police misconduct settlement in state history and exposed problems with emergency alerting that failed during the 2021 Marshall Fire.

Before calling Colorado home, Steve served as the Capitol Bureau Chief at WCIA in Springfield, Illinois. Originally from the Detroit area, Steve is a proud graduate of Oakland University. A husband and father, Steve is also a diehard fan of the Colorado Avalanche.
